On the 11th April 2003 I started a new job and career at The Dinghy and RIB Warehouse, Plymouth, UK
At my Interview I requested 3 to 4 months off work in 4 or 5 years time to do a motor bike trip around South and Central America. This was agreed and the time has now come to leave. Back in 2003 I didn't even hold a full UK motor bike licence so in April 2003 I did a direct access course and passed my motor bike test and immediately bought a BMW FS650 GS. After 2 years motor cycling and giving up my car and a long wait I took delivery of the newly launched BMW R1200GS which I have used every day since, come rain or shine.
In early 2007 I also purchased a 1993 rebuilt Honda Africa Twin XR750. There have been a few false hopes along the way and I found it difficult to get any one to come with me on my planned trip. I was all prepared to go in November 2007 when at the last moment Dave rang me and said he would come if we could leave after 15th December 2007. I willing accepted his offer.
I must say I gained lots of encouragement from the Horizons unlimited web site and even more from attending a very wet 3 days camping in Derbyshire at the adventure bike rally where I heard loads of great stories which were all the more encouraging.
The bikes left Plymouth all packed in Steel frames given to us by the local motor bike dealer GT Motor cycles
